Terms of Service
The rules for using Phraze, its plans and its subscriptions.
Last updated: October 3, 2026
1. Who we are
Phraze is operated by 3-101-947305 Sociedad Anónima, a company registered in Costa Rica with cédula jurídica 3-101-947305 and its registered address at Cinco Esquinas, Tibás, San José 11301, Costa Rica ("Phraze", "we", "us").
These Terms of Service govern your use of the Phraze website and app. The first time you sign in after creating your account, we ask you to accept them together with our Privacy Policy before you start using Phraze. If you do not agree, please do not use Phraze.
2. What Phraze is
Phraze is an AI-powered practice tool for spoken and written English. It includes:
- Live voice conversations with an AI coach.
- Automated feedback on pronunciation, fluency, grammar and how well you got your message across.
- A writing journal with AI review and coaching, and a notebook for words and phrases.
- Future Voice, a short preview that recreates an English answer you record in an AI-generated version of your own voice.
Phraze is an educational tool. Its scores and feedback are produced automatically, can be wrong, and are not a certified language assessment or professional advice.
3. Your account
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, Clerk.
Keep your sign-in details secure and give accurate information. Your account is for you alone: do not share it, and do not create several accounts to get around usage limits. You are responsible for activity under your account.
4. Plans and usage limits
Phraze offers a Free plan and paid plans. Each plan includes a monthly allowance of voice practice minutes plus daily limits:
- Free: 45 minutes a month · 3 sessions a day · 8 minutes per session.
- Early Adopter: 90 minutes a month · 15 sessions a day · 15 minutes per session, for $14.99 (USD) per month.
Monthly minutes reset at the start of each calendar month (UTC) and do not carry over. When you run out, practice pauses until the reset; your history, notebook and feedback stay available. To keep the service running for everyone, we may temporarily limit new practice sessions when overall demand is unusually high. The current plans and limits are always shown on the Pricing page.
5. Subscriptions and payment
Paid plans are sold through Creem, our online reseller and merchant of record. Creem processes your payment, handles applicable sales taxes and VAT, issues your invoices, and appears on your card or bank statement. Your payment details are collected by Creem; we never see your full card number. Creem's own terms apply to the purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically every month and you are charged at the start of each billing period until you cancel.
- You can cancel anytime from Settings → Manage billing. You keep your paid plan until the end of the period you already paid for, then your account moves back to the Free plan. Your data stays.
- The Early Adopter price is locked for as long as your subscription stays active. If the subscription ends, subscribing again may be at the price in effect at that time.
- If a renewal payment fails, Creem may retry it. If the subscription is cancelled, paused or expires, your account moves back to the Free plan.
- We may change prices for future billing periods. We will tell you before a change affects you, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
Payments are non-refundable, except as described in our Refund Policy.
6. Your content
Your recordings, transcripts, journal entries, notebook entries and custom scenarios remain yours. You give us a limited license to store and process them, including through the AI and infrastructure providers listed in our Privacy Policy, only to run, secure and improve Phraze for you. We do not sell your content.
7. Future Voice
Only record your own voice. Future Voice creates a temporary AI copy of your voice to generate the preview; that copy is deleted after processing. If you share a preview, anyone with the link can listen to it until the link expires or you revoke it. Our Privacy Policy explains how long each part is kept.
8. Acceptable use
Do not use Phraze to:
- Break the law or infringe anyone else's rights.
- Record, imitate or clone another person's voice.
- Upload content that is unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit or harmful.
- Get around usage limits, scrape the service, probe or disrupt its security, or reverse engineer it.
- Resell or give others access to your account.
We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
9. AI-generated output
Conversations, feedback, corrections and Future Voice previews are generated by AI models. They may be inaccurate, incomplete or unexpected. Use your own judgment before relying on them.
10. Our intellectual property
The Phraze software, design, brand and curated practice material belong to us or our licensors. Third-party material used in practice exercises remains the property of its owners. These Terms do not give you any rights to them beyond using Phraze as intended.
11. Ending your use of Phraze
You can stop using Phraze at any time. To close your account and have your data deleted, follow the steps in our Privacy Policy. Cancel any paid subscription first so you are not charged again. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or if we stop offering Phraze, and we will give notice where we reasonably can.
12. Disclaimers
Phraze is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or that it will achieve a particular learning result.
13. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim relating to Phraze is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms as Phraze changes. We will post the new version here with a new date. For material changes, we will tell you in the app or by email before they take effect and ask you to accept the updated Terms in the app before you continue using Phraze.
15. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Costa Rica. Disputes will be resolved by the courts of San José, Costa Rica, unless the consumer protection laws of the country where you live give you the right to bring a claim there.
